I’m Alice Stephenson, a tech lawyer who has expertise in starting my own business as well as advising other businesses and helping them flourish. 

www.alicestephenson.com (Website) provides services through my company AliceStephenson.com B.V., a company registered with the Dutch Chamber of Commerce (establishment no. 000049993887) registered address at Jan Luijkenstrrat 30 2 1071CP Amsterdam (we / us / our). 

This policy covers how we process your personal data if you use our Website or order any services. In these instances, we are the controller of your personal data (which means we decide what information we collect and how it is used).

Personal data means any information does (or could be used to) identify a living person. We may collect the following:

WHEN WE SEND YOU NEWSLETTERS

If you have consented to receiving newsletters from us, you can opt out of these at any time by clicking on the link in any newsletter we send you.

Opting out of these newsletters will not affect our processing of your personal data in relation to any order you have with us and where we are required to use your personal data to fulfil that order or provide you with certain information.

HOW YOUR PERSONAL DATA IS USED

Under data protection law, we need a legal reason (known as a lawful basis) for holding, collecting and using your personal data. The following table sets which lawful basis we rely on.

Where we need to collect your personal data (for example, in order to fulfil a contract we have with you), failure to provide us with your personal data may mean that we are not able to provide you with the services. 

WHO YOUR PERSONAL DATA IS SHARED WITH

  • Those providing technical and business-related services to us (including external consultants and freelancers).
  • ActiveCampaign, who store our mailing list. Their privacy policy is available at https://www.activecampaign.com/legal/privacy-policy.  
  • Stripe, to process payments via the Website. Their privacy policy is available at https://stripe.com/en-gb-us/privacy
  • Kajabi who hosts Lawscape and our digital courses. Their privacy policy is available at https://kajabi.com/policies/privacy.
  • Regulatory authorities (if required).

TRANSFERRING PERSONAL DATA INTERNATIONALLY

We store company information (including your personal data) in servers located in the United States (for example, through our cloud service provider or payment provider). We have proper mechanisms in place to ensure that transfer to that country is compliant with relevant data protection laws.

Otherwise, we will only transfer information outside of the UK or EU where we have a valid legal mechanism in place (e.g. by using contracts approved by the European Commission or UK Secretary of State).

KEEPING YOUR PERSONAL DATA SAFE

We have put in place appropriate security and safety measures to prevent your personal data from being lost or illegally accessed by those who do not have permission. These measures include:

• access controls and user authentication (including multi-factor authentication); and

• internal IT and network security

In the event that there is an event or incident affecting your personal data, we will keep you informed. We may also need to notify the regulator (where required under data protection law).

HOW LONG WE KEEP YOUR INFORMATION

We may keep Identity Data, Contact Data and certain other data (specifically, any exchanges between us by email or any other means) for up to seven years after the end of our contractual relationship with you. 

If you browse our Website, server logs are retained for up to 12 months. All of the analytics and advertising tools that we use are configured to anonymise the IP address of your device which means that this is no longer personal data which we can retain indefinitely.

If you have asked for information from us or you have subscribed to our mailing list, your personal data will be immediately deleted.

YOUR RIGHTS

Under data protection law, you have a number of rights in relation to your personal data, as below:

  • The right of access (obtaining a copy of your data)
  • The right to rectification (correcting your data)
  • The right to erasure (deleting your data)
  • The right to restrict processing (to stop use of your data for a time limited period)
  • The right to data portability (to move your data to another organisation)
  • The right to object(to object to our use of your data)
  • Rights in relation to automated decision making and profiling (to know if and how we use any technology to make decisions about you)

There are some limited exemptions to these rights, so they may not apply in every scenario. If we cannot fulfil your request, we will provide you with information why.

HOW DOES OUR WEBSITE USE COOKIES

The website uses small text files, called cookies, which are stored on your device when you access and use certain features of our website.

As cookies are unique, we can use them to distinguish you from other users for the purposes described above, however the analytical cookies are configured so that your IP address is anonymised.

There are different types of cookies, such as those which are necessary which help the Website run properly. We do not need your consent for necessary cookies. 

For other types of cookies, such those that allow us to understand how visitors use our website (performance cookies), those which provide metrics on how users interact with the website such as number of visitors (analytics cookies) and advertise which help tailor adverts to you (marketing cookies).
